Aadu / Kozhi Kaanikkai

Aadu/Kozhi Kanikkai (ஆடு/கோழி காணிக்கை) refers to the offering of goats (aadu) or chickens (kozhi) as part of a religious ritual in certain Hindu traditions, particularly in South India. This practice is usually associated with local or village deities, especially Amman (Mother Goddess), Kali, and other folk deities like Karuppasamy or Ayyanar.

Devotees offer goats or chickens as a way to fulfill vows, seek divine intervention, or express gratitude for blessings, protection, or answered prayers. It is often done in response to health-related issues, family problems, or as part of annual temple festivals.

The animal offering is believed to represent the removal of obstacles or negative forces from the devotee’s life.It also serves as an act of surrender and devotion, asking the deity for protection or specific blessings.
