Silver Uruvam Kanikai (சில்வர் உருவம் காணிக்கை) refers to the practice of offering a silver figurine or idol (uruvam) as a form of kanikai (offering) to deities in Hindu temples, particularly in South India.
This tradition is often done as a fulfillment of a vow, thanksgiving for blessings received, or to seek divine intervention in personal matters such as health, prosperity, or family well-being. The silver figurines are usually crafted to represent the specific deity to whom the offering is made, or they may represent objects related to the devotee’s prayer, such as animals (like cows), body parts (if asking for health), or other symbolic figures.
These silver offerings are commonly seen in temples dedicated to gods like Amman, Lord Sivan, Lord Murugar. After being offered, the items are often placed near the deity’s sanctum, symbolizing the devotee’s request or gratitude.
